CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE

“It’s not enough to believe in something. You have to be ready to stand for something, if you want change.”

– Edward Snowden

The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.”

– Albert Einstein

“We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly.”

“So the question is not whether we will be extremist, but what kind of extremist we will be. Will we be extremists for hate, or will we be extremists for love? Will we be extremists for the preservation of injustice, or will we be extremists for the cause of justice?”

– Martin Luther King Jr.

CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE takes you along when activists from «Extinction Rebellion» and «Stop Oljeletinga» move from direct action against jet fuel at norways main terminal “Sjursøya”, to blockade commuters and famous artworks. As the police move in, the filmmaker is himself arrested with cameras rolling. An intense and empathetic depiction of the here-and-now,  the film also offers a larger perspective: What drives ordinary people into using civil disobedience and taking on mighty state and corporate powers?

The movie is structured around three key processes:

Direct Action  –  Reconsideration  –  Conscience & Punishment

“Civil disobedience is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience.”

– Howard Zinn
